How Does HGH Work In The Body

The effects of Human Growth Hormone on the impacted tissues of the human body can generally be described as anabolic. Anabolic refers to a synthetic phase of metabolism known for building up tissues and organs. Human Growth Hormone is a protein hormone. As such, it acts by working together with a specific receptor on the surface of cells. These anabolic interactions of HGH with the cells receptors work in similar ways to solve very different problems. Below are descriptions of how Human Growth Hormone works to alleviate specific symptoms.

  • Pediatric Human Growth Hormone Deficiency (PHGHD)

Pediatric Human Growth Hormone Deficiency occurs in an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 children in the United States alone. Though most short children do not necessarily have a growth problem, a child growing at a much slower than normal rate can signify PHGHD. This condition exists when pituitary growth hormone production is absent, has slowed or stopped completely.
  • Adult Human Growth Hormone Deficiency (AHGHD)

Though adults don't rely on natural Growth Hormone production for growth as children do, their bodies do depend on it for other purposes. In adults, it is necessary to sustain healthy body composition and metabolism. When an adult's pituitary gland does not secrete enough of this important hormone, the body can have trouble maintaining a normal fat to muscle ratio, bad to good cholesterol levels, and appropriate bone mineral density.

Treatment with Human Growth Hormone

Increased height during childhood is the most commonly recognized effect of Human Growth Hormone. Height in growing children appears to be stimulated by at least two mechanisms:

  • Polypeptide, (a peptide containing anywhere from ten to more than one hundred amino acids) hormones are not fat-soluble. Hence, they cannot penetrate the cell membrane of the muscle cell. Thus, HGH applies some of its effects by binding to receptors on target cells, where it activates a second messenger. Through this mechanism GH directly stimulates division and multiplication of cells and tissues.
  • Growth Hormone also stimulates production of Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1(IGF-1, a hormone homologous to proinsulin. The liver is a chief target organ of GH for this process and is the principal site of IGF-1 production. IGF-1 has growth-stimulating effects on a wide variety of tissues. Additional IGF-1 is generated within target tissues. IGF-1 also has stimulatory effects on osteoblast and chondrocyte activity to promote bone growth.

Children diagnosed with Pediatric Human Growth Hormone Deficiency are treated with HGH injections until accelerated growth brings the patient to normal size levels.

Likewise, adults with Adult Human Growth Hormone Deficiency are treated with HGH injections until body mass and cholesterol level ratios reach normal levels and proper bone density is achieved.

Anti-aging

Natural Human Growth Hormone secretion is responsible for calcium retention, and strengthens and increases the bone mineralization process among other things. As aging occurs, the production and secretion of this important hormone can be diminished considerably, which leads to symptoms of aging throughout the body. HGH replacement therapies such as injections, sprays, pills or tablets can restore these functions and rejuvenate the human body by:

  • Retaining calcium
  • Strengthening bone density
  • Increasing muscle mass
  • Stimulating and strengthening the immune system
  • Increasing protein synthesis
  • Promoting the breakdown of fat stored in fat cells
  • Stimulating the growth of all internal organs except the brain
  • Reducing the liver's uptake of glucose
  • Promoting glucogenesis in the liver
  • Contributing to the maintenance and function of pancreatic islets

For Weight-loss

Using Human Growth Hormone for healthy weight loss can be very effective if used concurrently with a nutritious and low-fat diet and a daily regimen of cardiovascular exercise. HGH significantly enhances the body's ability to lose weight and achieve proper muscle to fat ratios for many of the same reasons it works to alleviate AHGHD. Because HGH replacement therapies increase muscle mass and promote the breakdown of fat stored in fat cells, weight loss becomes much easier to achieve. Add the benefits of an improved immune system and increased energy and you'll be on your way to a healthier body.
